This year, the IKC's commitment to sustainability was impressively confirmed yet again: the International Kids Campus (IKC) and all nine locations of our partner MINIHAUS München have once again been awarded the coveted “ÖkoKids – KindertageseinRICHTUNG NACHHALTIGKEIT” (ÖkoKids – Daycare Sustainability) seal of approval. The award is presented by the Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz (LBV) (State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation) in conjunction with the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection.
The award ceremony took place on 4 December 2025, at the Kulturhaus Milbertshofen. Representatives from numerous Bavarian daycare centers gathered there to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the ÖkoKids project and to present their projects in the field of education for sustainable development (ESD). Representatives from various MINIHAUS locations and deputy educational director Silvia Wick were also present to accept the awards and participate in the workshops. A total of 245 institutions received awards.
A look at the ÖkoKids event
The event day offered participating daycare centers a varied program. After a welcome by project manager Carmen Günnewig, workshops on topics such as “DIY for the environment”, upcycling, creative music-making, and safe use of pocket knives were on the agenda. The specialist lecture by natural gardener Birgit Helbig on the topic of “Daycare as a nature experience space” rounded off the symposium in the afternoon and provided valuable impetus for the further development of nature-oriented educational spaces in daycare facilities.
Commitment that makes a difference – in each of our facilities
Whether it's waste prevention, recycling, conscious nutrition, upcycling projects, nature-oriented outdoor areas, or working with resources – sustainability is firmly anchored in the educational concept at all MINIHAUS and IKC locations. Children experience environmental education not as abstract learning content, but as part of their everyday lives: they plant, observe, research, question, and help shape their surroundings.
Receiving the award yet again shows how consistently and creatively the teams live up to this claim. At the same time, it confirms the continuous development of the projects and the high educational standards that have distinguished the IKC and MINIHAUS München for years.
Proud of a strong team and curious about new paths
For the International Kids Campus and MINIHAUS München, the ÖkoKids award is a valuable mark of quality – both internally and externally. It confirms the dedicated work of all employees who actively involve children in sustainable thinking and action, thereby teaching them important skills for the future.
We are delighted to receive this award once again and are motivated to tackle many more projects that will make our facilities even more sustainable, step by step.
